Lead Agency: NH GRANIT, UNH Earth Systems Research Center
Primary Contact: David Justice
Sponsor(s): National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Start Date - End Date 02/10/2020 - 02/09/2024
Description: This is a multi-year project that will build on past Space Grant activities to demonstrate how remote sensing products such as LiDAR and Landsat imagery can be used to characterize the earth's surface. The project includes the following:
Begin to generate a canopy height model (CHM) from existing LiDAR collections within New Hampshire. Identify, acquire, and preprocess Landsat data commensurate with the current LiDAR collections that cover the state.
Finalize the canopy height model layer that was started in Task 1. Secondly, the Landsat data processed in Task 1 will be used to generate "image objects" using the eCognition segmentation software.
Use the LASTools software package to produce an alternative canopy height model for New Hampshire.
Leverage the image objects developed in Task 2 by using them as a foundation to generate forest types in a selected region of New Hampshire.
