Web Map Services (WMS)
Web Map Services (WMS) allow the user to access GIS data layers without downloading the data itself. A WMS requests map images from a server over the Internet. Those images are then added to your map document, e.g. your layer list in ArcMap.
Note: High speed Internet access (i.e., broadband, cable, DSL) is required to use WMS.

The following WMS are currently available:
2010-11 Statewide High Resolution Aerial Photography

Adding a WMS Layer to an ArcMap Document- In ArcMap, click the Add Data button.
- Click the Look in drop-down arrow and navigate to the GIS Servers folder.
- The GIS Servers folder will give you a list of servers you have previously used. Scroll the list until you see the WMS server you want to use.
- Double-click the WMS server you want to access. (If you don't see the server you want, double-click Add WMS Server. For more information on connecting to a WMS server, see Connecting to GIS Servers below.)
- Click the WMS service.
- Click Add.
Connecting to GIS Servers- In ArcMap, click the Add Data button.
- Click the Look in drop-down arrow and navigate to the GIS Servers folder.
- Double-click Add WMS Server.
- In the Add WMS Server window, enter the desired URL from the list of GRANIT Web Map Services above, and click Get Layers.
- Click OK to close the Add WMS Server window.
- Double-click the new WMS server.
- Click the WMS service.
- Click Add.
